As the year draws to a close, we look at the top five bowlers in cricket in 2012 in all three formats of the game.

Australia clinched a 137-run win in the opening Test at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart against the visiting Sri Lankans. In what was a rain-affected Test match, Australia managed to pull off victory despite losing the services of one of their frontline bowlers Ben Hilfenhaus through an injury.

Peter Siddle claimed 5 for 54 as Australia took a big first innings lead of 114 runs in the First Test at Hobarth. The Aussies finished Day 3 at 27/0 having bowled out Sri Lanka for 336 in 109.3 overs.

Australia has omitted fast bowlers Peter Siddle and Ben Hifenhaus for the Series Decider Test Match at Perth. Both the bowlers had heavy workload in the absence of the injured Pattinson during the drawn second Test at Adelaide and hence rested.

South Africa pulled off a miraculous draw in the Second Test at the Adelaide Oval by batting out the entire final day’s play. The Proteas forced a draw with Australia tantalizingly falling short of a victory by two wickets.

South Africa battled hard on the third day’s play at Brisbane right till the end but the Aussies still hold the edge over them with an overall lead of 273 runs with still five wickets in hand.
